Ciba Relocation Package
Ciba employees were moving from different locations at the same time into new Ciba Tarrytown headquarters and needed relocation materials.
About the project
Challenge:
Ciba employees were moving into a new office location in Tarrytown, New York, and management wanted the move to go as seamlessly and orderly as possible. To make things even more challenging, the deadline was extremely tight for when these pieces needed to be printed and delivered by July’s move in date.
Design Solution:
Created, designed, and oversaw the printing of two Ciba-Geigy Handbooks: a Ciba Employee Handbook and Ciba Employee Benefits Handbook to all Ciba employees moving into the new Tarrytown Center at the same time (for Ciba HR/Fulfillment purposes).
My Role
As the lead designer, I created two easy to read handbooks that maintained Ciba’s Corporate Brand Identity and Visual Identity as well as other related pieces. Simple and inviting to read, the materials welcomed employees, informed them on what they needed to do, and empowered them on how to handle things that might come up due to the move.
The Outcome
I decided the best way to present the two handbooks to employees was to place them in a canvas flight bag, which solved both the HR and the Fulfillment challenge. Better yet, employees could repurpose this flight bag. Since the move was taking place in summertime and we wanted to make the move a fun thing, I created a silkscreened beach towel that had the Ciba logo on it that would fit into the bag. In addition, I designed a pocket-sized Ciba Relocation Survival Guide for the Ciba employees. This guide featured descriptions of services and amenities available in the Tarrytown Corporate Center (TCC). The back of this spiral-bound guide included discount coupons to local restaurants, retail shops and services that employees could enjoy.
Turnaround Time
From start to finish, the project took 3 months.

Pure corporate design of Ciba handbooks using a grid, adhered to Ciba Visual Identity System. Ciba Handbooks and a towel silkscreened with the Ciba-Geigy logo were all packaged in a silkscreened flight bag employees took on business trips.
Results &
Impact
Exceeding expectations.
Ciba employees loved the design of the Ciba Handbooks and found them easy to use and very readable. The inclusion of a silkscreened towel and the flight bag was a treat. The Ciba Relocation Survival Guide was also a BIG hit, and the discount coupons to Tarrytown amenities and services were much appreciated and made them feel welcome.
